Lady Lions fight hard in losing effort

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. —
The Lincoln University volleyball team, playing just its second home match of the season, fought hard in a losing effort as the Lady Lions lost to West Chester, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.
 
West Chester (7-3), which met Lincoln for the second time in four days, took the match with scores of 25-7, 25-13, 25-6.
 
Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) and Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS) paced the Lady Lions (0-9) with three kills each. Defensively, Jasmine Grave registered six digs, while Zakiya Williams (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco Center for the Arts) and Bell each had four.
 
Tyler Sheafer led West Chester offensively with four kills, while Helen Fitzpatrick had 12 service aces and nine assists.
 
The Lady Lions hit the road for seven straight road matches, starting 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16 in the CIAA Roundup against Saint Augustine's College at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton, Va. On Saturday in the CIAA Roundup, Lincoln will meet Johnson C. Smith, Fayetteville State and Livingstone. The Lady Lions conclude the tournament on Sunday against Shaw and Winston-Salem State.
