Lions set to face rival Cheyney

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Lincoln University football team will begin its 2011 season Saturday against a familiar foe at rival Cheyney.

THE MATCHUP
Lincoln University will open the 2011 season with a familiar foe by traveling to rival Cheyney University. Last season, Lincoln finished with a 1-9 record overall and 0-7 in the CIAA North. Cheyney was 1-10 during the 2010 season.
 
THE SERIES
Lincoln holds a 10-0-1 record in the series against Cheyney. The Lions blanked the Wolves, 12-0, last season in Philadelphia, Pa. In that contest, Matthew Coston (Queens, N.Y./Dover HS) caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Laquan Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram HS) as the point after failed to give the Lions a 6-0 lead. Lincoln got a three safties to cap a 10-0 opening-season win. Lincoln amassed 331 total yards of offense - most of it coming on the ground - and the defense shut the Wolves down as Cheyney had 47 plays for 81 yards. Williams paced the ground attack, which ran the ball 46 times for 202 yards, with 19 carries for 97 yards. D'Ante Smith (Bowie. Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) had 89 yards on 20 touches.
