PIKE CREEK, Del. (March 22, 2011) — The Lincoln University softball team played well in two losses to Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday, dropping both games, 8-0.

Although the Lady Lions (2-10, 2-6 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) did not score a run, head coach Lynsey Grace was encouraged by her team's performance in the nonconference tilt.

"These are the best two games they've ever played in the two years since I've been here," she said. "I've never been so proud of these girls. If you look at how the other CIAA schools played against them, we played much better. We were hitting, pitching, everything.”

GBC, from the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference, represents arguably the stiffest competition to date the Lady Lions have seen. Against their powerful bats, the defense committed just two errors, one in each game.

In the first game the Lightning scored four runs in the second inning to take control and added one in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth. LU's freshman shortstop Avree Morton (Uniondale, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) logged the team's only hit.

In the second game, the Lightning scored seven in the first and one in the fourth inning. Rucker went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Rucker (1-9) was dealt the losses in both games, pitching complete games.

“They were the best games Erin has pitched her whole career," Grace Said.

That speaks to the endurance of the sophomore hurler from Shaker Heights, Ohio. She has now pitched the entirety of LU's last eight games.
