LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. (February 21, 2011) — Brittney Waters (Capitol Heights, Md./Charles H. Flowers) scored 17 points in Lincoln University's 60-47 loss Monday night at Manuel Rivero Hall. The output was Waters' second highest of her career.
After the game, the Lady Lions honored four breast cancer survivors that work for Lincoln University as well as one employee that passed away on Oct. 18, 2010. The festivities were part of the PinkZone presented by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Each year, the WBCA sponsors PinkZone nights during February as part of breast cancer awareness month. The Lady Lions wore pink warm-up jerseys and socks. Funds raised during the evening went toward research and to families affected by the disease.
The touching presentation of flowers and other items marked the highlight for LU in the school's home finale. Virginia State quickly opened up a sizeable lead but Waters brought LU back. Her floater in the lane with 9:15 remaining in the opening half got LU as close as 15-12.
The sophomore guard from Capitol Heights, Md., accounted for 11 of LU's first 12 points. The Lady Trojans, who never trailed, answered with an 11-2 spurt and led at the break, 29-17.
The second half was much of the same. VSU opened with a 16-4 run to essentially decide the game.
The CIAA battle marked the final home contest for two LU seniors Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus) and DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester).
Mosley had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. Evans led Lincoln in assists with three.
Rhon'Neisha Taylor led Virginia State with 22 points.
