Jackson scores 16 as Lions are tripped up by Golden Eagles

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lincoln University men's basketball team concluded the PSAC-CIAA Conference Challenge on Saturday by dropping an 80-69 decision to Clarion at Hamer Hall.
 
For the second straight game, Lincoln (0-2) had four players reach double figures in scoring. Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) led the way with 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Jai Kellman (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse HS) recorded 15 points on 4-of-9 from the floor. Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds, while Kenny Sharpe (Chester, Pa./Elite Academy) added 10 points and five boards as the Lions were 22-of-59 shooting for 35 percent. Lincoln also shot 89 percent from the free-throw line (21-of-24).
 
The Golden Eagles (1-1) led 32-28 at the half and used a 20-8 run to start the second half to put the game away.
 
Winfied Willis paced Clarion with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Calvin Edward registered 19 points and Leonard Patterson chipped in with 14 points. Paul McQueen added 12 points and a team-high seven boards as the Golden Eagles were 27-of-49 from the floor for 55 percent.
 
Lincoln returns to action with its home opener 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Manuel Rivero Hall against Millersville.
