ETTRICK, Va. – The Lincoln University volleyball team took the opening set on Friday night to Virginia State, but the Lady Lions fell, 3-1, in a hard fought CIAA Northern Division match.
The Lady Trojans (9-12 overall, 7-4 CIAA) dropped the opening game, 30-28, in a thriller, but bounced back with a 25-7, 25-16, 25-16 win.
Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) led Lincoln (0-23, 0-13) with nine kills, while
Zakiya Williams (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco Center for the Arts) added six.
Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) finished with 14 assists.
Jasmine Graves (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood HS) paced the defense with eight digs, while a trio of Lady Lions finished with seven digs – Johnson, Williams and
Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS).
Megan Whiten and Jasmine Davis led Virginia State with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Jasmine Henderson recorded 24 assists and nine digs.
Lincoln steps out of CIAA action 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13 as the Lady Lions travel to rival Cheyney.
