Lincoln plays host to Chowan in 2011 Homecoming Game

Week 6 Game Notes

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa.
– The Lincoln University football team will seek its second win of the season as the Lions entertain Chowan in the 2011 Homecoming Game on Saturday at Avon Grove High School in West Grove, Pa.

THE MATCHUP
Lincoln (1-4, 1-2) comes into the game off a 37-26 loss at home to West Virginia Wesleyan last Saturday in a non-conference game at Avon Grove High School.
 
The Lions racked up 392 total yards of offense, but was unable to move the football on the ground by gaining just 32 yards on 21 carries. Against West Virginia Wesleyan, Lincoln fell behind, 7-0, but quickly responded after the score by getting a 1-yard touchdown run by Mason Colton (Red Oak, Ga./Westlake HS)
to cut the deficit to 7-6 after the PAT was blocked.
 
The Bobcats used a 20-point second quarter to take a 27-6 lead into the
break.
 
The Lions opened the second half by getting a 58-yard touchdown strike from Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) to Matthew Coston (Queens, N.Y./Dover HS) to cut the margin and after a field goal by West Virginia Wesleyan, the Lions struck again as Coston caught his second touchdown pass from Cook from 29-yards out to close out the scoring in the third quarter with the Bobcats leading 30-20.
 
However, the two teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter with the Bobcats claiming the victory, 37-26.
 
There were 29 penalties for 275 yards.
 
Chowan (1-4, 0-3) enters the game after dropping a 43-29 decision last Saturday on the road to Virginia Union.
 
The Hawks allowed 479 total yards of offense and had its rally fall short as Virginia Union intercepted two passes on Chowan's final three drives. Adrian Ferns led the Hawks in rushing with 51 yards on 13 carries. Jordan Roby was 10-of-30 passing, but tossed five interceptions. Patrick Charles
paced the defense with nine tackles.

In that contest, Lincoln raced out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and saw that advantage slowly disappear as the Hawks cut the deficit to 13-10 at the half.
 
Chowan took a 17-13 lead with a score at the start of the third quarter, but Lincoln answered with a touchdown to retake the advantage, 20-17. However, the Hawks scored 13 unanswered points to take a 30-20 lead early in the final quarter. A Coston touchdown catch wasn't enough as Chowan took
the series opener.
