Lady Lions downed by Chowan and UDC

The Lincoln University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday as the Lady Lions fell to Chowan, 3-0, in a CIAA Northern Division contest and 3-0 to the University of the District of Columbia.
 
In the opening match against Chowan, the Lady Lions (0-21 overall, 0-11 CIAA) lost by scores of 25-12, 25-10, 25-16.
 
Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) and Erin Rucker (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights HS) led the Lincoln offense with five and four kills, respectively, while Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) had seven assists. Zakiya Williams (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco Center for the Arts) chipped in with seven digs.
 
Megan Sawyer led Chowan with seven kills, while Nikira Fults and Karina Monroe had six each. Allison Smith and Callie Armistead added 14 and 10 assists.
 
Against the University of the District of Columbia, Lincoln lost the match by scores of 25-9, 25-6, 25-8.
 
Johnson had four kills to lead the Lady Lions and DuBose added five assists. Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS) recorded four digs to lead the defense.
 
Vanessa Garley had 13 kills and Kamene Rose finished with 27 assists to pace the University of the District of Columbia.
 
The Lady Lions return to action by traveling to Virginia Union 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6 in Richmond, Va., for a CIAA Northern Division tilt.
