Henry, Reid-Bey and King lead way in win over Cheyney

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  – The Lincoln and Cheyney women's tennis teams, despite the rivalry, agreed that neither school would have a home-court advantage. Instead, they decided to move the doubleheader to the Arthur Ashe Tennis and Education Center to showcase the talents of the two schools.

Lincoln and Cheyney split a pair decisions with the Lady Lions taking the first of the double dip, 5-4, and dropping the second in a match that was called due to darkness by a 4-3 margin. Freshman Leslie Reid-Bey (Sickelerville, N.J./Winslow Township HS) (Sickelerville, NJ, Winslow Township) and sophomore Stephanie Henry (Pleasantville, N.J./Pleasantville) (Pleasantville, N.J., Pleasantville) won both of their singles matches. Henry improves to 6-5 on the year while Reid-Bey jumps to 5-4. Also, the duo teamed up for a victory in No. 1 doubles to go to 5-4 as a tandem.

Doreen Renee King (Washington, D.C./Calvin Coolidge) (Washington, D.C., Calvin Coolidge) also won two matches in the No. 3 singles to improve to 4-6 on the year.

In the opening match, Lincoln picked up wins in doubles with Reid-Bey/Henry, 8-5 and King/Mellyssa Diggs, 8-0. In the evening match, because of impending darkness, those matches were not played, and really, not playing those two doubles matches may have prevented a Lincoln sweep.

In both matches, Cheyney won the fourth and fifth singles spots. With a shorthanded roster, LU forfeited No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
