Goldey-Beacom blasts past LU

WILMINGTON, Del. — The afternooon began as well as it could've for the Lincoln University softball team, earning a lead in the early going of a doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College, but the Lightning electrified the home fans, winning 16-3 and 17-0 on its home field.

Shira Miller (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt HS) (Seattle, Wash., Roosevelt) earned a one-out walk in the top of the first and stole second and third. Erin Rucker (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights HS) (Shaker Heights, MD, Shaker Heights) singled her home with two outs to put the orange an blue up 1-0. In the top of the second, Mariah Liberty (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood Union HS) (Vermont) walk and advanced to second on a Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles Herbert Flowers) (Landover, MD, Charles Herbert Flowers) single. On a double steal, the throw by the catcher sailed high, bringing Liberty home.

After those highlights, remainder of the afternoon belongd to GBC. Four in the bottom of the second and five in the third capped by a two-run single by Heather Draper in that third put the game out of reach.

Taylor Hines (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) (Beachwood, OH, Beachwood) (6-9) took the loss while Draper, in addition to going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, also go the win with 3 2/3 innings pitched.

In game two, Rucker took the loss by allowing there runs in the first without recording an out. The Lightning scored seven in the first, with Jacqueline Waddle registering a big two-run single to put GBC up 4-0.

LU softball action continues Saturday with the Lady Lions hosting Saint Paul's College at 1 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Association. The home finalee, the afternon marks Senior Day.
