Bishop takes sixth in 55 meters

BOSTON, Mass. —
Competiing at the famed IC4A Championships this past weekend, Anthony Bishop (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King) (Philadelphia, PA, Martin Luther King) enjoyed what was surely a memorable experience.

Bishop and Larrone Moore tied for the fastest time in the preliminaries in the 55-meter dash with a 6.37 seconds, although they did so in separate heats.

In the prelims, Moore and Bishop recorded the top two times overall. Bishop was consistent at 6.37 while Moore, from Delaware State, recorded a 6.28. In the finals, Bishop was just .01 slower than his previous times, good for sixth. Moore, with a 6.31, claimed the top spot.

Overall, there were 51 schools represented at the event, held on the campus of Boston University. The University at Albany won the team title with 68.5 points while LU, with three ponts, was tied with BU and Coppin State for 44th.

In the long jump, Jared Randle (Kanakee, IL/Kanakee) (Kanakee, IL, Kanakee) bounded  22 feet, 3.5 inches for 13th of 23 competitors. Long Islan'ds Brian Richards won the event by leaping 23 feet, 5.5 inches.

Matthew Coston (Queens, N.Y./Dover HS) (Brooklyn, NY, Dover), a fixture atop the 800 all season, was 15th with a 1:52.36 of 40 competitors. Only the top nine advanced to the finals.

Coston me a similar fate in the 4x400-meter relay.  With a 3:14.81, Coston, Randy Dawkins (Jamaica), Diedre Mcloud and Alex Wright (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) (Brooklyn, NY, John Dewey) placed 14th in the prelims. 

The Lions will resume the track and field season with the outdoor schedule beginning March 27 with the Raleigh Relays.
