Free throws determine outcome versus Marauders

Box Score

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. —
The Lincoln Lions men basketball went down in a physical contest against Millersville University 66-52. In a game where two Lions' fouled out, everyone in stands could tell that it would be a game of free throws down the stretch.

Coming off a career performance, Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) led the Lions with 16 points. He also bundled five rebounds and three assists. Mooney has come alive as of late as he is trying to fill the scoring void Coach John Hill is looking for in his team.

Following Mooney in the scoring column was Eugene Smith (West Palm Beach, Fl/PennWood ) and Zane Oxley (Philadelphia/Martin Luther King HIgh School) with eight points apiece. The pair also had 14 rebounds between themselves and Smith also added four blocks and a steal as he continues to make his presence known in the paint.

The marauders were lead by Mike Holley with 15 points. But that came on 9-for-12 free throws as he only had two baskets.

The Lions continue to have positives in their favor, such as outscoring Millersville 30-22 in the paint and also got 35 points from its bench.

The Lions continue their excellence on defense as they hold another opponent below their season average on the year. In all five games played this year, the lions have held all but one opponent under 70 points. They held the Marauders to 34.5 percent shooting from the field and 32 percent from behind the arc.

The Lions' Achilles' heel for today was the free throw shooting. The Lions went 13-25 which comes out to 52% on the game. The Marauders went 20-32.
