Coates finds net in loss to Pitt-Johnstown

Box Score

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — Freshmen Mariah Coates scored her second goal of the season in an 11-1 loss to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Saturday afternoon at Lions field.

Coates' lone goal was one of the eight shots attempted by the Lady Lions bringing LU's deficit to 3-1 in the 11th minute.

She was the beneficiary of some great footwork. Charlise Cunningham (Long Island, NY/Bayshore) dribbled around a defender and crossed the ball from the right wing into the box. Shira Miller (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt HS) then deflected the ball Coates, streaking down the left side for the uncontested tap in.

Cunningham took half of the team's shots and also the assist. Isata Panda recorded six saves as well.

University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's (2-11) performance was nothing short of exemplary, scoring seven of their goals in the first half. Two of their players recorded hat tricks in the opening period.
