LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — The last volleyball game in Manuel Rivero Hall for the 2010-2011 season turned out to be a tough one as the Lady Lions fell to West Chester University 3-0 (5-25, 14-25, 15-25) Saturday afternoon
October is “Dig Pink Month,” and to play a part, the American Volleyball Coaches Association encourages teams to support breast cancer research and bring attention to the disease. The Lady Lions wore pink headbands for the game.
WCU came ready to play as they barely made a mistake in the first game. LU adapted to West Chester's fiery style in the next two games. In Game Two, Lincoln went on a 5-1 run to bring the game within 21-13, but that spurt did stop WCU from maintaining its lead throughout the entire match.
Senior Noel Webster (Hagerston, MD/Elkton) led the way with five kills. Sophomore Nekia Morris (San Bernadino, CA/San Gorgonio) added two of her own to go along with six digs. Junior Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) had eight assists, and sophomore Erin Rucker (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights HS) had two aces to go along with two kills of her own.
Freshmen sensation Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) had a wonderful night with five digs and two blocks. Her stellar performance might have been due to the fact that members of her high school volleyball came to support her.
