RALEIGH, N.C. — Shaw University negated a Lincoln's strong start with an even better finish, overcoming an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Lincoln Saturday evening, 71-62.
Lincoln was led by Darren Clark (Boston, MA/Largo) (Boston, Mass./Largo Md.) with 16 points, one of three Lions in double figures. Joining him was Ladaye Johnson (Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo-Tech) (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) with 12 points and
Damian Hyman (Bronx, NY/Harry S. Truman) (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) with 10. Eugene Smith (West Palm Beach, Fl/PennWood ) (West Palm Beach, Fla./Penn Wood) retrieved 10 rebounds.
Those individual efforts, though, were outdone by Shaw's Raheem Smith's 28 points behind 9-of-18 shooting including 4-of-8 from three.
In the first half, Lincoln shot 50 percent from the field and made five three pointers, but a 33.3 effort in the second half enabled Shaw to get back in the game and take the lead on its home floor. LU made just two three pointers in the final period.
Lincoln falls to 1-7 and Shaw improves to 6-4. LU will travels to Saint Augustine College Monday for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
