LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — Several Lincoln athletes qualified for the IC4As Saturday at the Bucknell Heptagonal Saturday while others near the important time.
Jared Randle (Kanakee, IL/Kanakee) won the long jump with a leap of 7.2 meters, easily surpassing the 7.02 qualifier mark for the IC4As, to be held March 6 in Boston, Mass, Also accounted for 10 of Lincoln's 26 team points, aiding the Lions in a fifth-place effort. Bucknell dominated the field with it's depth with 222.50 points. Duquesne (111.50), East Stroudsburg (82.5) Shippensburg (77.5) and St. Francis (7) also participated. Randle also finished second in his section in the 200-meter dash at 23.01 seconds.
Lincoln's 4x400 team also dominated. The time of 3:20.90 was exactly one second off from the IC4A time but members Alex Wright (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey), Randy Dawkins, Anthony Bishop (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King), and Matthew Coston (Queens, N.Y./Dover HS) finished 1.5 seconds ahead of Duquesne for first place.
Coston, for the second consecutive week, wont he 800 meters, this time with a 1:55.09
Lincoln's Bishop ran a 6.99 for third place in the 60-meter dash, earning six valuable team points, a part of a dominating LU effort in the race. Scott Rushane was one hundredth of a second behind Bishop for fourth, and Kester Lewis (Brooklyn, NY/William Grady (NY))' 7.07 clocked fifth. Wright also took second in his section of the 20-meter dash at 22.50, which was good for third overall. He needs a 2.24 to qualify for the IC4As.
Deidre McCloud also enjoyed a successful 500-meter dash with a fourth-place showing and winning his section at 1:08.01.
