SALISBURY, N.C. — Dante Blanton-Holcombe (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) scored 24 points Monday against Livingstone, leaving him 54 points shy of reaching 1,000 for his Lincoln career.
The Lincoln men lost the game despite his efforts, 87-73, but showed signs of life late in the second half after going down by as much as 28 points. The Lions fall to 2-12 while the Blue Bears improve to 8-7.
Three other LU player earned double figures. Darren Clark (Boston, Mass./Largo, Md.) had 12 points, Damian Hyman (Bronx, NY/Harry S. Truman) (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) had 11, and Eugene Smith(West Palm Beach, Fla./Penn Wood) had 10 to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
Three Blue Bears had 20-point games. Greg Henry was 9 of 16 from the field for 21 points and 12 boards for a double-double. Jarred Stockton had a game-high 28 points with eight boards, and Aaron Caruthers offered another 20 points.
Livingstone began the game on a 22-7 run culminating with a Stockton 3-pointer with 11:51 left in the first period and would go into the locker-room up, 44-23. In that first half, LU made seven field goals at 32 percent as opposed to LC's 15 field goals at 48 percent.
Lincoln is in the midst of its most strenuous part of the schedule Wednesday, the Lions travel to Elizabeth City State for a tip at 7:30 p.m. The road game was re-scheduled to accommodate LU's need to make up its game against Cheyney on Jan. 31, originally scheduled for Dec. 19 before a blizzard forced the postponement.
