CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Lincoln men's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit only to go cold in the final minutes of an 85-69 loss to Johnson C. Smith Saturday night at Brayboy Gymnasium.
After JCSU's Jerry Hollis got a lay-up to fall with 15:00 left stretched the Golden Rams' lead to 50-35, Lincoln began chipping, beginning with a 3-pointer by Clinton Sellers (Baltimore, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons). When Damian Hyman (Bronx, NY/Harry S. Truman) (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) knocked down another shot from beyond the perimeter with 7:02 to go, LU tied the game at 65-65.
That, though, seemed to reawaken the Golden Bulls, scoring 20 of the game's final 24 points.
With the loss, Lincoln's record is now 2-1. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams improve to 9-5.
Darren Clark (Boston, MA/Largo) (Boston, Mass./Largo, Md.) once again led Lincoln with 19 points. Shaun Rodgers' 13 rebounds were a career high pacing Lincoln. Rodgers also had seven points.
As good as Clark and Rodgers were, the Golden Rams' Hollis had a career night with 32 points and 19 boards.
Lincoln travels to Salisbury, N.C. to play Livingstone College Monday. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
