LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — Lincoln University will go after several firsts this weekend when it travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Livingstone College. The Lions are in search of their first road win and first conference win since reinstating football in 2008. GAME NOTES
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at 1 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Memorial Stadium. The game will be available on BrandywineRadio.com with Jon Schaeffer on the call.
Lincoln (2-2, 0-1 CIAA) has shown rapid improvement in its second season, already doubling the win total from one to two, winning one game on a neutral field against Cheyney to open the season and against Southern Virginia in Week Three. A third win would be the most Lincoln since 1954 when the program went 4-3-1.
Livingstone (0-4, 0-1) has endured a rough first four weeks culminating in the resignation of head coach Lamonte Massie on Monday. Eric Brown takes over as interim head coach for the rest of 2009. The move follows a 51-0 loss to Bowie State last Saturday.
Livingstone is averaging 31 rushing yards and 152 passing yards per game through a tough schedule that featured No. 17 Catawba in Week Three. Senior Quarterback Steven Williams has a 101 passer rating having completed 50 percent of his passes for three touchdowns. He has just one interception.
The Blue Bears defense surrenders 297 yards per game, a weakness the Lions will try to exploit this weekend without the services of dual-threat quarterback Brandon Austin (Greenville, N.C./Farmville Central) (Greenville, N.C.). Austin aggravated a nagging hamstring injury in the second half of his 304-yard, 3-touchdown day against Southern Virginia Laquan Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram HS) (Philadelphia, Pa.) will get the start under center.
