Volleyball endures tough Day Two of CIAA Roundup

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.. — In the second day of the CIAA Roundup hosted by Fayetteville State, Lincoln dropped its three matches to fall to 2-9 on the season.

Lincoln opened the afternoon by dropping a spirited five-game affair to Shaw. After losing the opening frame, the Lady Lions took the second two, 25-22 and 25-21, respectively, but the Lady Bears stormed back in the fourth, 25-19. In a match befitting the close competition, Lincoln and Shaw went into overtime in the fifth, with Shaw stealing it, 16-14.

Nekia Morris (San Bernadino, CA/San Gorgonio) (San Bernardino, Calif.) paced Lincoln with 8 kills, Lia Hubbard (Farrell, PA/Farrell ) (Farrell, Pa.) had a team-best 25 assists, and Sharay Dubose (Salisbury, Md.) contributed five aces.

Lincoln attempted to avoid a letdown against host Fayetteville State at 1 p.m., but faced with playing immediately after a tough-five gamer, the Lady Lions could not maintain their energy, falling, 25-12, 25-15, 25-14.

Morris again led the Lady Lions in kills, this time with six, while Hubbard contributed 14 assists, and Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS) (Owings Mills, Md.) recorded LU's lone ace.

Facing Livingstone in the evening's last match, Lincoln had a balanced attack as Morris offered eight kills while Noel Webster (Hagerston, MD/Elkton) (Hagerstown, Md.) had six, but they could not overcome the Blue Bears, dropping the contest, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21.

The three-day roundup concludes tomorrow with matches against Johnson C. Smith University and Elizabeth City State.
