RICHMOND, Va. (April 11, 2009) – The hitting of Sharell McMillan (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) and pitching of Taylor Hines (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) helped the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania softball team achieve another significant milestone against Virginia Union University Saturday afternoon. The Lady Lions defeated the Lady Panthers, 7-3, in the opening game of a doubleheader to earn their first victory over a CIAA opponent in program history. McMillan had three hits in each game. In the opening game, McMillan slugged her team leading fourth home run of the season. Hines struck out a career-high 11 batters. DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) had two hits, including a double. Meanwhile, Alisa Davis (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester County Tech) had a key RBI single during Lincoln's five-run third inning. Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles Herbert Flowers) walked twice and scored two runs.
In the second game, McMillan also scored three runs. Mosley had a two-run double in the sixth inning that gave Lincoln a 9-5 lead. However, the Lady Panthers rallied for seven runs to earn their third victory in four games. Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) had a RBI bunt single and stole a pair of bases in the fourth inning. Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus) also had a RBI hit in the game.
Lincoln finishes its weekend road trip in Virginia at Virginia State in a doubleheader on Easter Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
