Fayetteville, NC--Hoping to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss to West Chester University on opening night, the Lincoln University men's basketball team took to the their first trip of the season going up against CIAA foe Fayetteville State.
Fayetteville (2-0) rode the back of junior Jamel Carpenter, who scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds en route to a 100-85 victory. Having four players in double figures, the Broncos continued their scoreboard assault, hitting the century mark for the second straight game.
The Lions (0-2) were competitive in a highly contested game. Lincoln went into the locker room at the half down 42-38. The first half saw a wave of emotion, including a Carpenter monster slam that resulted in the shot clock falling.
In a game catering to Lincoln's four guard, fast paced approach, the Broncos proved to be game as they continued to control the pace in the second half.
Sophomore point guard Darren Clark (Boston, MA/Largo) (Boston, MA/Largo) continues to show his electrifying scoring ability, leading Lincoln with 24 points, also dishing out 6 assists. Senior Ladaye Johnson (Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo-Tech) (Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo-Tech) was second with 21. Fellow senior Darrell Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester ) (Chester, PA/Chester) provided his usual spark of the bench going for 15 points and 4 steals.
Lincoln will look to notch their first win of the 2009 season on Monday as they visit Chowan University in Murfreeboro, NC.
