Lady Lions Basketball Falls to Johnson C. Smith 80-55

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA (January 26, 2009) – The Lincoln University women's basketball lost a tough home game Monday evening to Johnson C. Smith University 80-55 at Manuel Rivero Hall. (BOXSCORE)

 

Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, MD, Parkside) led the way for the Lady Lions scoring 18 points while pulling down three rebounds.  DuBose was 7 for 11 from the field and 2 of 5 from behind the three point arc in 31 minutes of play.

 

Tanina Cook (Landover, MD, Charles H. Flowers) had a stellar night for Lincoln as she recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Cook was 5 for 14 from the field and 3 for 5 from the charity stripe.  She was helped on the offensive end by backcourt assist machine Chanelle Harris (Philadelphia, PA, Penn Wood) who scored in double digits for the third game in a row with 10 points and pulled down three rebounds while adding six steals and five assists.

 

The visiting Lady Golden Bulls from Johnson C. Smith University were just too much on the offensive end for the Lady Lions.  Three players ended with double figures while 10 total players scored at least two points.

 

Tyra Breaux and Wendy Stywalt each scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds to go along with a solid defensive effort with a combined six rebounds between the two. 

 

Demetria Bell had a truly solid night for the visiting Johnson C. Smith University.  Bell took in a double-double on the evening scoring 17 points and pulled down a game high 12 rebounds to help the Lady Golden Bulls lead in that category 51-42.  Bell was 6 for 10 from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line. 

 

The Lady Lions will be back in action on Thursday January 29, 2008 at Virginia State University at 5:30 pm.
