Shorthanded Lincoln women fall to Virginia State

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (January 15, 2009) – Chanelle Harris (Philadelphia, PA, Penn Wood) scored a season and game-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough as the short-handed Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team dropped a 97-65 decision to Virginia State University Thursday evening at Manuel Rivero Hall. (BOXSCORE)

Also reaching double figures for Lincoln was Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, MD, Parkside) (15 points) and Angelle Green (Yeadon, PA, Penn Wood)  (13 points). Tanina Cook (Landover, MD, Charles H. Flowers) added eight points and eight rebounds for Lincoln, which played with seven players as a result of injuries. The Lady Lions played hard and battled the Lady Trojans.

Lincoln trailed, 41-33, early in the second half before the Lady Trojans were able to add to their advantage.

Harris finished one point shy of tying her career high, which was 21 points against PSU-Brandywine last year. It is the second time in Harris' career she scored 20 or more points in a game. She also finished with five rebounds and five assists. Other players establishing career highs included Green, who handed out four assists and Alease Tabb (Brooklyn, NY, Middle College High School), who blocked three shots. Four of Lincoln's five starters had five or more rebounds.

Lincoln is off for nine days. The Lady Lions return to action on Saturday January 24 when it hosts Saint Augustine's beginning at 5:30 p.m.
