GAINESVILLE, FL. (April 4-5, 2008) – Lincoln University of Pennsylvania sophomore Aaron Hunter (Sharon Hill, PA/Academy Park) continued his impressive start to the outdoor season by winning the triple jump at the University of Florida Relays last weekend. (COMPLETE MEET RESULTS)
Hunter's effort capped a solid performance by the men's track and field team. In addition to Hunter's victory, freshmen Davon Goldsborough (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Andre Wilkinson (/) were part of three relays that all finished among the top 15.
Hunter soared 47 feet, 53/4 inches to win his second straight triple jump event in as many weeks. Hunter, the reigning Lincoln male student-athlete of the week, won the triple jump last week at Delaware State. Hunter easily won his triple jump event by more than a foot over Chris Gaillard of Western Carolina.
Goldsborough, Wilkinson, senior Lance Wigfall (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) and junior Randy Dawkins (Bronx, NY/Lehman) turned in an impressive showing in the 4 x 200-meter relay. The quartet finished fifth in a time of 1 minute, 26.14 seconds. They finished behind heavyweights Florida, Charleston Southern, Delaware State and Mississippi). The Lions' 4 x 200-meter relay stunned several major schools at the Penn Relays last year by winning their heat of the race to earn coveted Penn Relay watches.
In the sprint-medley relay, Goldsborough, Wilkinson, freshman Vincent Thomas (Columbia, PA/Columbia) and sophomore Todd Mason (San Diego, CA/) placed 10th (3:29.85). Later in the rain-shortened meet, Goldsborough, Wilkinson, sophomore Anthony Bishop (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King) and sophomore Rushane Scott (/) finished 13th in the ultra-fast 4 x 100-meter relay (41.28 seconds).
Individually, sophomore Jared Randle (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) was 12th in the long jump (22 feet, 1 inch).
The Lincoln men's track team returns to action Saturday afternoon when it competes in the College of New Jersey Invitational at Noon.
