OXFORD, PA. (March 13, 2008) – Senior Latoya Milstrey (Union, NJ/Union), sophomore Renee King (Washington, D.C./Calvin Coolidge) and freshman DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) recorded their first career hits during a pair of losses for the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania softball team against Virginia State Thursday afternoon.
Milstrey and Mosley teamed up for Lincoln's only run during a 26-1 defeat in the first game of a doubleheader. (BOXSCORE) Virginia State also won the second game, 21-0, to improve its record to 6-4 overall. (BOXSCORE) This was Lincoln's first game against a CIAA opponent in the brief history of the softball program.
Mosley led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a sharp single. She scored when Milstrey came through with a two-out single. In addition to King, Milstrey and Mosley reaching base, Alisa Davis (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester County Tech), Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus), Shanisse Conway (Westhampton Beach, CA/Westhampton Beach) and Milstrey walked to earn a spot on base.
Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers), Lincoln's leading hitter with a .500 average, walked twice in the second game. Cook stole three bases to raise her team-leading total to four. Mosley also reached base with a walk. She also stole a base. Davis and Jordean Matthews (Pleasantville/Pleasantville, NJ) were strong defensively for the Lions during the game.
Lincoln concludes its six-game, four-day home stand Saturday afternoon when it hosts Saint Paul's College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Association Softball Complex (CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE FIELD)
