Lincoln throws scare into Division I North Carolina Central before falling short

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (February 8, 2008) – North Carolina Central senior guard Jennifer Hukill scored 20 of her career-high 33 points in the second half to help the Eagles defeat Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, 67-62, in women's basketball action at Manuel Rivero Hall Friday night. The game was part of the WBCA's “Think Pink” campaign to raise both money and awareness for the battle against breast cancer. The campaign will focus on women's basketball games during the days of Feb. 8-17. North Carolina Central wore pink uniforms while the Lincoln players wore pink ribbons on its uniforms.

 

Hukill was 10-for-21 from the field and 9-for-15 from 3-point distance. Sophomore Latoya Bennett contributed a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) and junior LaVonna Hailey handed out 11 assists to pace the Eagles (5-20 overall).

 

Meanwhile, Lincoln (5-13) was led by senior Sharell McMillan (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman)'s 21 points. Freshman DeJuana Mosley and junior Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers) also finished with double-doubles for the Lions. Mosley had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Cook scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Chanelle Harris (Yeadon, PA/Penn Wood) handed out five assists for Lincoln, which trailed, 35-33, at intermission.

 

Lincoln concluded its five-game home stand with a 2-3 record. The Lions return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to meet Newport News Apprentice School beginning at 2:00 p.m. The game can be heard live over the Internet at www.redzonemedia.com with Matt Martucci, the voice of the Lions, calling all of the action.
