Harris collects 200th career assist as Lincoln seniors go out with a bang

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (February 21, 2008) – Chanelle Harris (Yeadon, PA/Penn Wood) made sure Asha Atkinson (Deptford, NJ/Deptford), Sharell McMillan (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) and Latoya Thompson (York, PA/William Penn) had a Senior Night to remember. Harris scored a career-high 21 points and handed out nine assists, including her 200th career helper, to lead the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team to a 73-59 victory over Penn State-Brandywine Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall. McMillan added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Lions, who finished their home schedule with a flourish. Junior Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers) recorded her sixth double-double of the season and eighth of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Thompson finished with nine points. Heading into its final game against Johnson C. Smith Saturday afternoon, Atkinson, McMillan and Thompson have combined to score 1,929 points. This was the fourth time in Lincoln's last seven games it scored 70 or more points.   

 

Freshman DeJuana Mosley added a career-high 14 rebounds and four assists. Freshman Keyona Grant (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) turned in a solid all-around effort by scoring a career-high seven points and pulling down a career best four rebounds. Mosley and Cook helped Lincoln win the rebounding battle, 52-41. Lincoln finished the season with a 4-7 record at home.

 

With Harris leading the way, Lincoln finished with a season high 21 assists on 27 baskets. Harris currently has 206 career assists. Harris was 9-for-11 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point distance. With Lincoln clinging to a 43-39 with 15 minutes, six seconds remaining, Harris and Thompson fueled a 9-0 burst that gave Lincoln a 52-39 advantage. Thompson drilled a 3-pointer off of a Harris assist. On PSU-Brandywine's next possession, Harris scored on a layup and her steal on the ensuing PSU-Brandywine possession led to another Thompson basket. Thompson finished the run with another basket off of a Harris pass.

 

Lincoln started fast behind McMillan, who scored nine points to help Lincoln open a 22-11 lead with 11:13 remaining in the first half. However, Penn State-Brandywine went on a 13-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 24-22 with 8:35 remaining. Harris gave Lincoln the lead for good, 32-29, when she made a 3-pointer with 2:49 remaining. The Lions led, 37-30, at intermission.

 

Cara Zibelman scored a game-high 22 points to lead Penn State-Brandywine. Katie Martin added 13 points for PSU-Brandywine.

 

Lincoln concludes its first transition season from Division III to Division II with a game at Johnson C. Smith, currently ranked ninth in the South Atlantic regional rankings, Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. The game can be heard live over the Internet with Matt Martucci, the voice of the Lions, calling all of the action. Johnson C. Smith will be the fourth regionally ranked team Lincoln has faced this season.
