Lincoln rally falls short against Virginia Union

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA (November 20, 2008) The Lincoln University men's basketball team dropped a 63-53 decision to Virginia Union despite a spirited rally Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall. (BOXSCORE)

 

Junior guard Damian Hyman (Brooklyn, NY/Harry S. Truman) led the Lions with 18 points. Freshman guard and business management major Darren Clark (Largo, MD/Largo) also scored double figures with 10 points. Hyman added five rebounds and two assists for the Lions (0-4).

 

Junior guard and health science major Bryant Leach (Philadelphia, PA/Bartram) led the Lions with eight rebounds. Leach and sophomore computer science major Kristin Joyner (Brooklyn, Y/Thomas Jefferson) collected two steals each. Sophomore center and business major Eugene Smith (Lansdowne, PA/Penn Wood) (West Palm Beach, FL/Penn Wood) added four points for the Lions and grabbed three rebounds.  

 

Other key players for the Lions were junior guard and health science major Darrell Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) (10 points and four assist) and freshman guard and informational technology major Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, MD/Western School of Technology) (6 points).

 

Lincoln fought back from a 20 deficit (48-28) with 11 minutes and 28 seconds into the second half. The Lions came within three points of the Panthers when Mosley sunk a pair of free throws with a minute and 26 seconds left in the game.

 

The Panthers (1-0) had three players in double digit scoring, Brandon Byerson (10 points), Braxton Byerson (18 points) and Gregg Thondique (22 points).

 

Lincoln returns to action when they travel to Elizabeth City Saturday November 22, 2008.
