Blanchard's goal not enough for Lions in setback to PSU-Abington

ABINGTON, PA. (September 4, 2007) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team dropped a 7-1 decision to host and unbeaten Penn State-Abington Tuesday afternoon at Huntingdon Field.

Freshman Shaynita Blanchard converted her second penalty-kick of the season in the 56th minute for Lincoln's only goal. Blanchard, who was named to the Bryn Mawr all-tournament team over the weekend, is 2-for-2 on penalty-kicks this season. She also scored against Bloomfield College in Lincoln's opening match.

Once again, sophomore Antonia Jones used her speed to earn Lincoln a penalty-kick opportunity. Jones was fouled in the box thus setting up Blanchard. Junior keeper Tanina Cook made 11 saves for Lincoln (0-5). For the weary Lions, this was their fifth game in seven games and fourth in five days.

Also turning in solid efforts for the Lions in the searing heat were junior Chianne Ashman, junior Collene Cumberbatch, sophomore Adaeze Chikwem and freshman Chiamaka Opara. Late in the first half with Lincoln still trailing, 1-0, the Lions were able to sustain an offensive attack behind Ashman's throw-ins and some hard work from Chikwen, Opara and freshman Joy Floyd.

Penn State-Abington got three goals each from Samantha McGovern and Colleen McCarthy to improve its overall record to 3-0.

Lincoln returns to action on Thursday September 6 when it travels to Lancaster Bible College for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
