ARLINGTON, VA. (September 29, 2007) – For the fourth time in seven games, the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team allowed a goal in the opening 20 minutes during its 3-0 loss to Marymount University at Glebe Field Saturday night. (BOXSCORE)
Lincoln's record dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-2 on its current five-game road swing. Marymount's Paul Decker scored five minutes into the game for a quick 1-0 advantage. Rowan, Molloy and Moravian all scored goals in the opening 20 minutes against Lincoln.
Daniel Lozano scored off an assist from Andrew Stearns in the 33rd minute for a 2-0 halftime lead. The Saints iced the game when Inty Arteaga scored in the 81st minute. Nathan Blumenschein recorded the assist on Arteaga's goal.
Lincoln generated 13 shots, but only managed two shots on goal, one in each half. It was the second straight year Lincoln lost to Marymount.
Junior midfielder Theon Francis (Trinidad & Tobago/Queens Royal College) led Lincoln with five shots and senior forward Peter Jarbo (Philadelphia, PA/Carver Mission Academy) added four shots for the visiting Lions. Senior defender Jerrell Hooker (Cunupia, Trinidad/Presentation College) also fired two shots for the Lions. Senior goalie John Oluwole made saves.
The Saints improved their record to 6-4 as they won their fourth in a row. It was Marymount's second consecutive shutout and third in four games. William Brahmstedt recorded the shutout -- his fifth of the season. He had two saves off 13 Lincoln shots.
Things get more difficult for Lincoln as it travels to East Stroudsburg University for a non-conference match Tuesday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. East Stroudsburg, which is off to a 10-1 start this season, participated in the 2006 NCAA Division II tournament last year.
