LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (April 11, 2007) - Lincoln University of Pennsylvania has named Chris Cummings as softball coach and equipment manager.
A fixture on the local softball scene in the surrounding community, Cummings brings a wealth of experience to the Lincoln University softball program. Cummings, a Ridley High School graduate, has been involved in some level of softball for over 10 years.
“We are very fortunate to have a local person come to us with such a softball background,” Lincoln athletics director Dr. Alfonso Scandrett said. “Mr. Cummings is a program builder in the sport of women's softball and that is what we need in our move to Division II status. Not only will Mr. Cummings help to take our program to the next level, but he will also help fulfill our goal of recruiting from the field of very good and local softball talented female athletes that comes from Oxford, Jennersville and Kennett Square.”
Prior to being named head coach at Lincoln, Cummings coached in the Oxford Little League. He coached every level from 7 years old to 18. Cummings also served on the Oxford Little League Board of Directors and he was the vice president for two years of the organization. Currently Cummings is the coach of an under-18 travel team with USSA.
Cummings also has experience in building programs. He served as the junior varsity coach at Unionville High School for two years. While coaching the Oxford Babe Ruth team he helped the team qualify for the 2006 district tournament. Cummings served as the District One commissioner for Babe Ruth Inc. where he handled all seven leagues in Southern Chester County.
“I am looking forward to building the program,” Cummings said. “I think it's an exciting opportunity for the school and myself. I view this as a great challenge and one I can live up to. The women seem to be excited and I believe we can do a lot of great things for softball and Lincoln University.”
