Lincoln falls short in season-opening match to CIAA foes

SALISBURY, NC (August 25, 2007) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania volleyball team opened its season with a pair of 3-0 defeats to Livingstone College and Saint Paul's College in a tri-match at Edward Trent Gymnasiusm Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lady Lions (0-2 overall) fell to CIAA schools Livingstone, 30-11, 30-12, 30-9 BOXSCORE and Saint Paul's, 30-13, 30-12, 30-13. BOXSCORE
 
During the two matches, junior Donneisha Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Harold S. Vincent) (Milwaukee, WI/Harold S. Vincent) led Lincoln with six kills. Senior Ashley Warren (Severn, MD/Meade) (Severn, MD/Meade) tied a career-high with six assists against Saint Paul's in the second game. She finished with eight total in the two matches. Warren also had six assists in a match against Washington Bible College last year.
 
Junior Jordean Matthews (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) collected eight digs and junior Lindsey Wilson (Aliquippa, PA/Aliquippa) (Aliquippa, PA/Aliquippa) added seven digs for Lincoln, who was playing its first athletics event as a Division II exploratory member.
 
For Livingstone, senior Whitney Armbrister led the effort with ten service aces and ten total attacks. Sophomore Asiah Bracket totaled nine kills from 19 total attacks while freshman Shannon Allen tallied 14 assists.
 
The Saint Paul's duo of Christa Mosley (14 assists) and Whitney Lang (10 kills) proved to be too much for the Lady Lions to overcome.
 
Livingstone defeated Saint Paul's College, 3-1 (30-28, 30-26, 22-30, 30-26) in the final game of a tri-match. Davia Moss accumulated 24 kills off of 46 total attacks and 21 digs to lead Livingstone. Allen added 36 assists for the Lady Blue Bears. Meanwhile, Lang led St. Paul's College with 15 kills, 41 total attacks, and 16 digs.
 
Lincoln returns to action against Rosemont College in its home opener on Thursday September 6 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
