Lincoln posts second consecutive win against Virginia Union

RICHMOND, Va. (December 13, 2007)- The Lincoln University women's basketball team defeated Virginia Union 68-65 Thursday night at Barco-Stevens Hall to win its second consecutive game. (BOXSCORE)

Freshman guard Dejuana Mosley scored a career high 21 points to help Lincoln improve its record to 2-7 overall. Mosley made three 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds despite fouling out with seven minutes, eleven seconds remaining. 

Junior forward Tanina Cook posted her second career double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Cook's last double-double was in December of 2005 in an 80-66 win over Mitchell College at the Keystone College Tournament.

Senior guard Sharell McMillian also hit double digit scoring collecting 12 points for the Lions. McMillian played an all-around game grabbing six rebounds, handing out three assists, recording three blocks and collecting three steals. Freshman Noel Webster made a game changing shot that put the Lions ahead for good, 61-60, with 2:42 remaining. Webster added five points and two rebounds to the Lions victory.

This was the first game this season the Lady Lions have won trailing at halftime (36-33). Other key players for the Lions included sophomore Chanelle Harris (eight points, seven rebounds and five assists), senior Asha Atkinson (five points, six rebounds), and junior Angelle Green (four points, four rebounds).

Virginia Union (0-6) also had three players reach double figures. Katchona Johnson led  the Panthers with 18 points also grabbing nine rebounds. Ciara Alston scored 16 points for the Panthers, 10 of which came from the free throw line and Dashia Chandler collected 10 points.

Lincoln returns to action Saturday night at 6 p.m against rival Cheyney University at Temple University's McGongile Hall. Tickets are $20 and can be puchased the day of the game. For more information on the Lincoln-Cheyney game contact Cheyney University at (610) 399-2143.
