Anthony Richardson enters his first season as Associate Head Coach for the Lincoln University (Pa.) Men's Basketball program as the team prepares for the 2026-27 season. In addition to his duties as Associate Head Coach, Richardson serves as the Lions' Defensive Coordinator, overseeing the team's defensive philosophy, game planning, player development and scouting while assisting with recruiting, practice planning and all aspects of the program.
Richardson arrives at Lincoln following a successful stint at Kansas City (UMKC), where he was part of one of the most successful periods in recent program history under Head Coach Marvin Menzies.
During his time with the Roos, Kansas City earned a share of second place in the Summit League standings, tying the highest conference finish in program history, before entering the following season as the Summit League preseason favorite for the first time in school history. The Roos also earned their first postseason victory since 2017 with a first-round win in the Summit League Championship and recorded notable victories over Wichita State, Oral Roberts and South Dakota State.
Richardson played an instrumental role in the development of several award-winning student-athletes. Jamar Brown earned First Team and Second Team All-Summit League honors, Summit League Newcomer of the Year, Academic All-League recognition, CSC Academic All-District honors, Summit League Peak Performer of the Week accolades and Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honors. Jayson Petty was named Summit League Freshman of the Year, Khristion Courseault earned Sixth Man of the Year honors and Babacar Diallo received All-Defensive Team recognition. Head Coach Marvin Menzies was also named Summit League Coach of the Year during Richardson's tenure.
Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Richardson served as Assistant Head Coach at William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri, where he was the team's Defensive Coordinator. He helped guide the Bears to a district championship and a state semifinal appearance while developing and implementing the team's defensive system. His contributions helped Head Coach Jake Kates earn divisional Coach of the Year honors.
Richardson also served as the head boys basketball coach at Northland Christian School from 2018-21. Earlier coaching stops include Riverside High School (2006-07) and Leesville Road High School (2005-06), where he helped mentor and develop student-athletes on and off the court.
Prior to his coaching career, Richardson enjoyed a distinguished nine-year professional playing career that included stops in Germany, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands and the NBA D-League (now the NBA G League).
He earned Continental Basketball Association All-Star honors with the Butte Daredevils during the 2006-07 season before being named United States Basketball League Player of the Year after leading the Kansas Cagerz to a league championship. Overseas, Richardson competed for BSG Ludwigsburg in Germany and spent two seasons with EiffelTowers Den Bosch in the Netherlands, capturing the 2008-09 Dutch NBB Cup while earning two All-Star selections.
From 2010-13, Richardson played in the NBA D-League with the New Mexico Thunderbirds, Reno Bighorns and Fort Wayne Mad Ants, averaging double figures in scoring while contributing more than five rebounds per game. He also competed professionally in Japan's top division with the Aishin Sea Horses and in the Korean Basketball League with Busan KT Sonicboom, Goyang Orions and Wonju DB Promy. During his time in South Korea, he was selected to the 2013-14 KBL All-Star Game and won the league's Slam Dunk Contest.
Richardson graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management. During his four-year collegiate career, he appeared in 118 games with 48 starts while averaging 8.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game. He earned Honorable Mention All-ACC Freshman Team honors in 2002 and was recognized as an All-ACC Academic selection.
One of the nation's premier high school prospects, Richardson starred at Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. He led his team to the North Carolina 4A State Championship Game as a senior and was named the 2001 North Carolina Mr. Basketball. He also earned McDonald's All-America honors and Parade All-America Third Team recognition.
Richardson and his wife, Jennifer, have five children: Jessica, Jorney, London, Zoi and Jett.
