Summary

Biography

2007: Had nine or more digs in three of Lincoln’s last four games including 10 at Saint Paul’s (10-23) and 11 vs. Bowie State (10-30). Registered a career-high 19 kills against Roanoke Bible College in 3-1 victory (9-28). Had 13 kills against Christendom College (9-28) and Washington Bible (10-13). In quad-match against Christendom, Washington Bible, and Roanoke, she finished with 41 kills. Notched eight aces to help Lincoln defeat Rosemont College (9-8). Led Lincoln with 71 blocks and 131 digs. Was second on the team with 146 kills and 51 aces. Played in a team-high 98 games over 31 matches.
2006: She led the Lady Lions with 50 assists and was second with 69 kills and 38 blocks. An outside hitter last year, Matthews developed into an effective setter. Matthews had a career best 10 kills in a tough 3-1 defeat to Lancaster Bible. Displaying her versatility, Matthews posted a career best 11 assists in a 3-0 victory over Washington Bible in the next to last game of the season. As Lincoln claimed its first victory of the season, a 3-2 conquest over Rosemont College, Matthews delivered seven serving aces.
2005: Matthews 53 aces, which tied for team lead. She was second with 65 kills, second in blocks with 25 and fourth in digs with 221. Matthews had a career best 31 digs against Lancaster Bible College (Sept. 14). Overall, Matthews had five or more games with 20 or more digs. Had a season-high seven serving aces twice against Medgar Evers College (Sept. 10 & Oct. 8). Matthews had seven kills against Washington Bible College (Oct. 13). Started every game as a freshman.
Personal: A mass communications major, Matthews enjoys reading, writing, dancing, eating, sports and laughing. Her favorite television show is “Law and Order: SVU” and her favorite movie is “To Sir with Love.” Matthews’ favorite food is macaroni and cheese and oxtails. Matthews wants to be a sports reporter, journalist or a media correspondent. Her favorite cartoon character is Tigger. She lists her older brother Devon as her greatest sports figure. Matthews is the youngest of five siblings: Rosanne, 29, Devon, 27, Kirk, 23, Jannella, 21, and Raye Anne, 21.
