Frank “TanQ” Turner is entering his third season as the head coach of the Lincoln University (PA) football program in 2025-26. Turner was named the 25th head football coach in program history and the sixth since the revival of the program in 2008. He is no stranger to “The Den,” having served as the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach since 2018.
Under Turner’s leadership, the Lions' defense has become one of the most formidable units in the CIAA. The 2022 season marked a significant milestone, with the defense achieving its best statistical performance under his guidance. During his tenure, the Lions have produced 10 All-CIAA players, 1 All-American, and the program's first player selected to the HBCU Legacy Bowl defensively.
Turner has a proven track record of success from his previous coaching roles. At Kentucky State University, he helped lead the defensive unit to a top-10 national ranking in total defense in 2014, and in 2015, the team finished second nationally in total defense and first in first-down defense. He also coached at Fort Valley State University, where he was part of the Wildcats’ defensive unit that ranked first in SIAC total defense and first nationally in total defense in 2010.
A former standout player at Albany State University, Turner was a key member of the “Dirty Blue” defense that won two HBCU national championships, three SIAC conference championships, and earned two NCAA DII playoff appearances. He earned 1st Team All-SIAC, Black College All-American, and D2 All-American honors during his playing career.
Turner is a graduate of Albany State University, where he earned a BA in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Electronic Media. He also holds a Master’s in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy. Coach Turner is the proud father of two sons, Frank Turner III and Maverick Turner.
