Ettrick, VA - November 29,2025 - The Lincoln University women's basketball team opened Day 1 of the VSU Cross Divisional Classic with a hard-fought effort but came up short in a 61–57 loss to Shaw on Saturday afternoon in Petersburg, Virginia.
Lincoln was powered by a standout showing from Kaziah Akinniyi (Baltimore, Md./Poly), who delivered a team-high 20 points while adding three rebounds and a steady inside presence. Serenity Burgess (Coatesville, PA) turned in one of her strongest games of the season, recording a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while also providing key second-chance opportunities.
Hunter Conway (Detroit, MI/Belleville HS) added 11 points and four rebounds, going 7-for-9 from the free-throw line, and Riley Holliday (Baltimore, MD/) anchored the interior with 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals off the bench. Lincoln dominated the boards, outrebounding Shaw 54–37, including 31 offensive rebounds that kept the Lions within striking distance throughout the game.
Despite the strong rebounding performance, Lincoln struggled from the field, shooting 19-for-83. The Lions stayed within two possessions for most of the second half, tying the game three times, but Shaw closed with a late surge in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
