Elizabeth City, NC - January 23rd, 2025 - The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team showed resilience with their victory against Elizabeth City State University with a final score of 65-54. The Lions improve to 9-9 overall and 5-3 in CIAA play.
Senior Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) stood out with 25 points on 9-17 shooting and 3 steals. Junior Kaziah Akinniyi (Baltimore, Md./Poly) added 10 points & 1 steal. Senior Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) had 9 points and 2 steals, but also led the team with 12 rebounds, being a dominant force on the glass.Lincoln shot 43% from the field and 47% from 3. They forced 13 turnovers, scoring 19 points off of those turnovers as well, while holding Elizabeth City State to shooting 32% from the field.
Lincoln trailed to end the first quarter, but a strong second quarter lead them to victory. Scoring 25 points in the second, Lincoln never looked back. It was Lincoln's free throw shooting that made a significant difference to help them endure the lead, going 14-20 whereas Elizabeth City State went 9-17.
The Lions hope to keep the ball rolling in their next CIAA match up against Virginia State University on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
