Lincoln University, PA – December 9, 2024 – The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team fell 79-62 to Claflin University in a hard-fought CIAA match up at Manuel Rivero Hall. Despite a slow start, the Lions rallied with strong second and third quarters, but Claflin's hot shooting proved too much to overcome.
Senior Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) led the Lions with a standout performance, scoring 25 points, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, while adding 6 steals, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds. Senior Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) contributed 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists, delivering a solid all-around effort. Freshman Hunter Conway (Belleville, MI/Belleville) provided a spark off the bench with 15 points and 3 rebounds.
After trailing 20-4 in the first quarter, Lincoln found their rhythm in the second, outscoring Claflin 23-20 to cut into the deficit. The Lions continued to fight, posting a strong third quarter, but Claflin's efficient shooting (53.1% from the field, 52.2% from three) and points off turnovers (25) kept the Lions at bay.
The Lions (2-7, 0-3 CIAA) will look to bounce back in their next game against Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, NJ, on December 12, 2024, at 5 p.m.
