Charlotte, NC – December 16, 2024 – The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team earned a gritty 57-47 road victory over Johnson C. Smith University in CIAA action at Brayboy Gymnasium. A strong team effort on both ends of the court powered the Lions to their second conference win of the season.
Senior Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) paced Lincoln with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists, while senior Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Junior Kaziah Akinniyi (Baltimore, Md./Poly) provided a key spark, knocking down two three-pointers on her way to 6 points, and sophomore Anyia Gibson (Edgewood, MD/) led the Lions on the boards with 9 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.
The Lions shot a sharp 51.1% from the field and controlled the paint with 32 points inside, while their defensive pressure forced 19 turnovers and limited Johnson C. Smith to just 36.6% shooting. A decisive third quarter, where Lincoln outscored the Golden Bulls 18-15, helped create a lead they would not relinquish.
With the win, Lincoln improves to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA. The Lions will stay in North Carolina for their next matchup against Winston-Salem State University on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in Winston-Salem, NC.
