PHILADELPHIA, PA (September 2, 2023)- The Lincoln University Lions volleyball team opened their 2023 season on the road with a doubleheader matchup against the Holy Family University Tigers. The Lions slip the day, 1-1, taking game 1 in the 5
th sets.

GAME 1 
	- After an 8-0 run by Holy Family, Lincoln worked to close the scoring gap in the opening set.
 
	- Several Tiger errors moved the Lions within points of taking the lead, but Holy Family pulled away with a 25-17 win for set 1.
 
	- Despite Holy Family taking an early set 2 lead, Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) tied the score 16-all.
 
	- Consecutive Tiger errors gave the Lions the 25-21 set 2 win.
 
	- Set 3 mimicked set 2 as the Lions gained control due to several Holy Family errors, resulting in a 25-19 set win for Lincoln.
 
	- The teams went point for point in set 4 as they battled for the win, which ruled in favor of the Tigers, 25-23.
 
	- Lincoln's 4-0 run to open set 5 gave them the edge needed to take the 15-9 set win and overall victory.
 
 
GAME 2
	- The Lions struggled to find a rhythm in the opening 2 sets, allowing the Tigers to take a 25-12 and 25-15 set win.
 
	- Set 3 gave Lincoln a boost, sending them on several runs.
 
	- Battling to control the set, the Lions went on a 6-0 run to close the scoring gap, 24-23.
 
	- Holy Family took advantage of Lincoln's final error for the 25-23 set win and overall victory.
 
 
LION LEADERS
	- Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) controlled the weekend for the Lions with 20 kills over Holy Family.
 
	- Tallying 27 digs and 9 aces for Lincoln was Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/).
 
	- Stepping in for the Lions with 24 assists over Holy Family was Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown).
 
	- Madison Hill (Laurel, MD/Reservoir HS) jumped up to secure 7 blocks against Holy Family.
 
UP NEXT 
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, September 9 for their first home game of the season. The matchup against Notre Dame of Maryland University is set for 11am.
