Final Results
DURHAM, N.C. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania men and women's track programs combined for 148.6 points, won 11 medals, and had seven different events qualify for either the ECAC or NCAA Championships at the 2023 CIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The men ended up coming in fourth place when the smoke cleared, racking up 86.5 points to trail only the medal winners; Virginia State (140), Saint Augustine's (111), and Claflin (107.5).
Four-time reigning CIAA Field Athlete of the Year Glenn Butler, Jr. (Greenburgh, N.Y./White Plains) put on a one-man show per usual. The senior won both the high (2.04m) and long (7.51m) jumps, earning NCAA bids in each, while also scoring seventh in the 100m dash with a PR of 10.95 seconds to also make the ECAC Championships in a track event as well.
Jayden Rodriguez (Hillside, N.J./North Star Academy) joined his teammate in going for gold on top of qualifying for the IC4A, taking the top spot for the 110 hurdles in a speed of 14.88.
Jeremy Gyan (Bear, Del./Newark Charter) put a huge dent in the scoreboard with 18 points on the weekend, leading all student-athletes in the pole vault (3.80m) while finishing as the runner-up with a new benchmark during the javelin throw at 47.31m.
Both the 4x100m (42.32) relay team of Jude Butumbi (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast), Jordan Hall (Randallstown, Md./Newtown), Nyle Buchanan (King George, Va./King George), and Irvin Marable (Somers Point, N.J./Pleasantville) plus the 4x400m (3:18.41) quartet of Ra'ar Corinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill Freedman Academy), Michael Amaker (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder), Nasir Scott (Levittown, Pa./Harriet Tubman), and Marable each came away with bronze medals in their respective races as the former group also earned a spot in the ECAC Championships.
Daniel Cooley (Owings Mills, Md./Northern) impressed in his own right, scoring on three separate occasions and breaking two personal-records by triple jumping 13.66m (4th - PR), long jumping 6.79m (7th - PR), and high jumping 1.89m (8th).
The final ECAC qualifier to come from the male Lions was Corinaldi, doing so with his fourth place allotment in the 400 hurdles (53.56), which was a new low mark.
Marable wrapped up the top-five and PRing at fourth regarding his 1:56.69 800m.
The three other Lincoln guys to produce points were Amaker (6th in 800m - 1:58.22 / 8th in 1,500m - 4:16.73), Divonte Newsome () (7th in javelin - 37.92m), and Grant Fields (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) (8th in discus - 37.96m).
For the ladies, they put together a sixth-place finish by way of 59.13 points, topping the squads from Livingstone (31), Claflin (23), Bowie State (19.13), and Virginia Union (11.36).
Aisha Carrington (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) was the only gold medalist on the women's side, qualifying for the NCAA prelims in the 100 hurdles (14.17) while securing seventh for her 12.36 100m dash, PRing on her way to the finals (12.11).
Angel Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan) snatched the lone silver with an ECAC worthy time of 1:03.04 as part of the 400 hurdles.
Her twin, Amani Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan), also made waves by grabbing fifth for the 400 hurdles (1:06.31 - PR) to go along with sixth during the 100 hurdles (15.51).
Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester) was the women's answer to Butler as a student-athlete to qualify for both championships, getting the ECAC spot in the prelims of the 200m (24.80 - PR) before earning seventh in the finals (25.55) while punching her ticket to the NCAAs with the bronze during the 400m (55.37 - PR).
The final podium spot of the day went to Jazlynn Church (Wilmington, Del./The Charter School), boasting the bronze by running the 800m in 2:18.02, a new PR.
Olivia Wright (Winslow Twp., N.J/Winslow Twp.) scored two times for a total of six points as she went fourth in the triple jump (11.19m) and eighth for the high jump (1.45m - PR).
Other women scorers were Destiny Pierre Mathieu's (Drexil Hill, Pa./Prendie & Bonner) seventh-place PR in the 800m run (2:21.12), Anaeja Ferrell's (Newark, Del./St. Georges) seventh in the long jump (5.17m), and Ida Rose Moore's () PRing in eighth place at the long jump (5.12m).
Those that qualified will make their way down to George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia next weekend for the ECAC / IC4A Championships.
