LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania softball program saw one of its numerous impactful freshmen land the team's first CIAA weekly accolade of 2023 as first year student-athlete
Maison Burton (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was voted Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Burton, a super utility player, became the first softball player to win a weekly honor since
MacKienzee Rasheed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) claimed CIAA Defensive Player of the Week on April 4, 2022 and she is the first Lion to win the Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the past four years, going back to Tierra Russaw's achievement on April 22, 2019.
In the non-conference doubleheader against Chestnut Hill, she reached base safely in five of her six plate appearances for an OBP of .833 with four hits in five at-bats (.800). Burton covered nine total bases, crushing her first career collegiate home run, lacing a pair of doubles, and scoring three times while reaching on a hit-by-pitch as well.
Head Coach
Zadaisha Waddell,
Maison Burton (Frederick, Md./Frederick), and the rest of the winningest single season team in school history will take on NCAA Division I opponent Delaware State for a Thursday doubleheader in Dover prior to its final four home games of 2023 vs. Virginia State on April 15 and Senior Day opposite Virginia Union on April 16.
