Pollock’s Double-Double Helps Lions Stave Off Panthers Comeback

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball program was aided by Kania Pollock's (Queens, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) first career double-double in her 47th game as a Lion to outlast a pesky Virginia Union squad, 72-64.

What You Need to Know:

  • Score: Lincoln (PA) 72 | Virginia Union 64

  • Records: Lincoln-PA (16-7, 10-3 CIAA) | Virginia Union (12-13, 4-9 CIAA)

  • Winning Streak: Lincoln-PA (W4) | Virginia Union's Last Win: February 15, 2020 (62-47)

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Pollock had a contest to remember, leading the Lions with 16 points and setting a new career-high with ten boards to lead all players on both sides while notching a pair of assists and a steal as well despite just 24 minutes played.

  • Taylor Brown (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) tied her career-best with six points and three field goals made plus six rebounds, a dime, and her third steal of the campaign.

  • Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) stole a trio of passes for a game-high, made three of the club's five long distance buckets, and poured in 14 points on the evening.

  • Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) was the matchup's most generous student-athlete with three helpers to go along with nine points.

  • Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch), Isis Triplett (Orlando, Fl./West Oaks Academy), and D'Ayzha Atkinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) combined to produce 23 points and 17 rebounds between them.

Notes:

  • With 7:26 remaining in the second quarter, a layup by Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) gave the Lions a 21-6 lead. Virginia Union ended the first half on a 23-10 run to cut the deficit down to two at the break, 31-29.

  • The win halted the team's modest two-game losing streak. It was the first time they had lost multiple games in-a-row since dropping three straight from November 25 to December 3.

  • LU of PA held VUU to 2-of-9 (22.2%) from downtown for the night and 3-for-22 (13.6%) for the season series, the two lowest three-point percentages allowed by Lincoln this season.

Next:

  • A road trip to Shaw University awaits the ladies from the Keystone State, matching up with the Bears for a 2 p.m. showdown inside Spaulding Gymnasium.
