Softball Drops Season Opening Doubleheader At Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania softball program could not catch lightning in a bottle, falling in both matchups at GBC on Tuesday by scores of 12-2 (5 innings) and 5-2.

What You Need to Know:

  • Game 1 (5 Innings): Goldey-Beacom 12 | Lincoln (PA) 2

  • Game 2): Goldey-Beacom 5 | Lincoln (PA) 2

  • Records: Lincoln-PA (0-2, 0-0 CIAA) | Goldey-Beacom (3-1, 0-0 CACC)

  • Location: Wilmington, Delaware – Jackson Athletic Complex

  • Winning Streak: Goldey-Beacom (W20) | Lincoln (PA)'s Last Win: None Since 2008

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • 2022 All-CIAA Freshman Team selection Irlynn Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) has picked up where she left off a season ago, going 3-for-6 (.500) with a double, two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base.

  • Chloe Foster (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) pitched well despite wearing the loss in game two, pitching a complete game of six innings while allowing just two earned runs as well as a punchout.

  • Kevyn Jones (Baltimore, Md./Paul Laurence Dunbar) logged a hit and an RBI in each contest with the game one base knock being a two-bagger, ultimately scoring while she added a base on balls in the nightcap.

  • Kailee Richmond (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was quite possibly the best Lions hitter in game two, reaching safely all three times to the dish as she smacked a pair of singles plus drew ball four on top of making her way to first base via hit-by-pitch in the opener.

  • Tia Brown (Newark, N.Y./Newark) and Cailyn Dove (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck Senior) each contributed an RBI single, and Aliya Rose (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Preperatory) swiped second.

Notes:

  • The softball program extended its unfortunate losing streak in season openers to nine years in-a-row, last coming away victorious with a doubleheader sweep over Virginia-Lynchburg on March 8, 2013.

Next:

  • The ladies from the Keystone State will make their way down to Orangeburg, South Carolina this weekend for four games as part of the CIAA / SIAC Challenge, starting with a doubleheader versus Benedict (2 p.m.) and Miles (4 p.m.) on Saturday afternoon.
