ETTRICK, VA (October 4, 2023)- The Lincoln University Lions women's soccer team defeated the Virginia State University Trojans, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon. The road victory marks the Lions first win of the season. Lincoln currently holds a season record of 1-7-2.
MATCH ACTION
- The contest started with both teams playing cautiously, feeling each other out. The Lions defense held strong, denying the Trojans any clear scoring opportunities.
- Although the first half was scoreless for both teams, Lincoln showed effort and determination outshooting VSU, 7-5, in the half.
- A few minutes into the second half, the Trojans found space to grasp their only goal of the contest.
- Midway through the second half, Justyce King (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley), made a pass connection to Jordan Allison (). Â Slotting the ball into the back of the net, Allison put the Lions on the board with a score of 1-1.
- Determined to the move Lincoln ahead, Nialah Crawford () powered the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead.
- Pressing harder as the clock ran down, the Lion's defense didn't give the Trojans any space to break through.
- In the final minutes of the matchup, Oshynn Cosom (Mount Holly, N.J./Bordentown Regional) showed LU was the true orange and blue by slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to seal the 3-1 victory.
- The final whistle blew, and the Lincoln University Lions celebrated their first win of the season.
