BOWIE, MD – A pair of Lincoln University running backs eclipsed the 100-yard mark Saturday, but the Lions dropped the season-finale to Bowie State, 41-24, in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action.
Sophomore Amir Gerald went over 100 yards for the third time this season, gaining a career-high 140 yards on 19 attempts. Freshman Nasir Oglesby, in just his second game, rushed for 105 yards on six carries as Lincoln gained 249 yards as a team.
The teams traded opening possession touchdowns as BSU needed just eight plays to cover 40 yards on the game's first possession. However, Lincoln answered with a 13-play, 81-yard drive to pull even as freshman Isaiah Freeman connected with freshman Malachi Langley on a two-yard pass. Freeman was 6-of-8 for 26 yards on the drive.
Bowie State scored on two drives in the second quarter to take the 20-7 lead into halftime.
Senior
Mike Johnson (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) pulled the Lions to within six with a 19-yard interception returned for a touchdown on BSU's first play of the second half. After the Bulldogs added another touchdown, freshman Joseph Price drilled a 38-yard field goal, and the Lincoln deficit was 27-17.
Oglesby helped set up Lincoln's next score, following another BSU touchdown. The freshman back went 63 yards down to the Bulldog 26. Three plays later, Gerald cashed in the drive with a two-yard plunge.
Freeman finished with 115 yards on 12-of-29 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions. He was sacked three times.
Senior Kai Gray finished his collegiate career with 15 tackles, eight solos, and a forced fumble. Senior
Mike Johnson (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) added nine tackles and the aforementioned pick-six.
Lincoln finished with season 2-7 overall, 1-6 in the CIAA.
