RICHMOND, VA – The Lincoln University volleyball improved over each of the three sets, but came away with a straight-set loss, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18, to Virginia Union Monday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lincoln hit .053 for the match with 25 kills on 113 attempts and 19 errors. A bulk of those miscues came in the first set as LU hit -.043 with nine errors on 46 attempts and seven kills.
- The Lions improved in the second set with seven kills on 40 attempts and four errors (.075) and then hit .185 in the final set with 11 kills on 27 attempts and six errors.
- Freshman Laila Newborn (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) finished with a .235 hitting percentage on six kills over 17 attempts and two errors.
- Sophomore Haley Loper (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Technical) almost tallied a double-double with a team-high 12 digs and eight kills. Sophomore Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/) and freshman Janaa Smith (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) each had seven digs.
- Sophomore Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) led the team with 10 assists. She added five digs.
