Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB zoned out by Shaw

The Lincoln University women's basketball fell into a first-place tie in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Northern Division with a 74-65 loss to Shaw Wednesday at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.

Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) recorded her third double-double of the season with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) was the only other player in double figures with 10 points. Senior Kryshell Gordy (Chester, Pa./Ursuline Academy (Del.)) pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds.

Faced with a zone defense, the Lions launched 34 of their 73 shots from beyond the arc – going 7-of-34. Players other than Brown were 1-of-17 from three-point range. Lincoln missed all 13 of their attempts in the first half.

Despite the shooting woes, Lincoln had trimmed a 13-point lead to two points (67-65) with 1:52 remaining in the game. Unfortunately, that was the last time the team would score as the Bears scored the game's final seven points.

A 10-0 run early in the second quarter allowed Shaw to open up a seven-point lead that eventually ballooned to a 10-point halftime deficit for the Lions. Lincoln was limited to just 10 points in the game-changing quarter.

Lincoln continued to make runs to trim its deficit to two possessions, but it was defensive lapses that enabled the Bears to continually rebuild their leads.

Lincoln (13-5 overall, 6-2 CIAA) hits the road again, traveling to Virginia State 2 p.m. Saturday.
